New Gates for the Manse!
The late Mr Robert Robb (98) and his son Mr
Jackson Robb farmed, in the Parish of Aberdalgie, at Broxden Farm
on the outskirts of Perth. When Broxden was taken over for
development in 2002 these gates became redundant. On hearing
that the Stewartry were looking for new gates for the Manse, both
Robert & Jackson were delighted too see their gates coming back
into use and very generously gifted these to the Stewartry.
Mr
Jockie McGregor spend many hours using his skills and expertise,
erecting the gates across the Manse Drive.
Grateful thanks must go to Robert &
Jackson for this gift and too Jockie for a job well done!!

ELDERS AWAY DAY
On
May 24th twenty-two Elders spent a 'day away' at St. Mary's
monastery to start organising the work of the Stewarty under a
Unitary Constitution. It was also a good opportunity to meet
the Revd. Robert Pickles who will be our Interim Moderator
during the vacancy when Colin retires on June 11th 2008.
At a meeting of the Kirk Session on May 13th 2008 the
Minister and Elders congratulated Mary Herd on celebrating her
30 years ministry as a serving Elder of the Church of Scotland
and presented her with a certificate to commemorate the event.

MAY 2008
A Farewell to Colin
One
morning service will be held in the Stewartry
on Sunday, 29th June in Dunning Church at 11 a.m. Due to holiday
entitlements Colin ceases his duties as our minister on 11th June but
has agreed to lead this service before he retires officially on 30th
June.
Lady Jean Wemyss has most kindly offered her lovely
garden at Invermay for a ‘Garden Party’ so that all who wish to take
farewell with Colin may spend some time together. An invitation is
therefore extended to you, all Colin’s friends, to come along to
Invermay following the service. To simplify the catering, you are
invited to bring along a tartan rug and your own picnic. A marquee has
been arranged should we have inclement weather.
I am sure everyone would like to give Colin and
his family a farewell gift. If, and only if, you would care to
contribute, I am happy to coordinate a collection. You may give your
contribution to an elder, to me personally or, if you prefer, you could
send me a cheque. Please make cheques payable to Mrs. P. Robb and send
to East Lamberkin Farm, Glasgow Road, Perth PH2 0PN by 15th June. Thank
you,
Pat
Robb

MARCH 2008
The
Annual Congregational Meeting.
On Palm Sunday, 16th March, there was one morning service
only in the Stewartry in Forteviot Village Hall at 11am.
It was a memorable start to Holy Week
and a good opportunity for the whole congregation to worship
together.
After the service lunch (soup & various fillings for rolls) was
served. Following lunch the meeting received the annual accounts and voted upon
a proposal to adopt the Unitary
Constitution.
The Group
considering the re-ordering at Dunning displayed photographs of our
existing four sanctuaries as well as photographs of some other
churches visited that have already been re-ordered. The
congregation were invited to give feedback on what they saw as well
as ideas for changes at Dunning .

FEBRUARY 2008
News from CrossReach
The current issue of the CrossReach magazine
Circle of Care focuses on the issues
surrounding dementia. Helen Thomson (Head of Service – Dementia) writes to
explain what dementia is and whether it can be cured. Alan Staff (Chief
Executive CrossReach) writes about the Dementia time-bomb with the growing
number of people over retirement age in Scotland and the consequent increase in
the number of people likely to develop the cognitive and memory disorders which
we loosely describe as dementia.
The Church of Scotland was the very first operator of
a care home specifically for people with dementia. In January 1983 Williamwood
House in Glasgow was opened and today CrossReach remains one of the foremost
providers of specialist care in this field in Scotland. On 30th April 2008
CrossReach is hosting its first Dementia Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in
Glasgow. The hope is that networking and future partnership working will result
from connections made at the conference. This inaugural conference aims to
highlight the person behind the dementia and focus on current dementia issues
such as palliative care and safeguarding. For more details on the conference go
to www.crossreach.org.uk or call
0141 338 6560.
